Milestone 3.1. Improving energy efficiency for electrified DC rail systems
Tasks
- Development of an electrical infrastructure simulator for DC railway systems including energy storages and reversible substations
- Modelling of realistic traffic scenarios to obtain a representative range of real-life phenomena associated with energy consumption, generation and exchange between trains
- Modelling of railway lines with complex topology and different types of services
- Development of an optimisation algorithm to automate the search for optimal infrastructure configurations

Milestone 3.2. Development of microgrids in the railway environment ("railway-microgrids")
Tasks
- Comprehensive study of converters connected to catenary to generate AC voltages
- Simulation, stability and analysis of hybrid microgrids (AC-DC) at stations using non-conventional energy sources
- Development of a meshed catenary power supply system
